Part-time helper rates in Jamaica 2026: what 2 or 3 days a week costs

Pay the full day rate for your parish, for each day worked. In Kingston and St. Andrew that is J$700 to J$1,000 a day for standard household work, so two days a week comes to roughly J$1,400 to J$2,000 and three days to roughly J$2,100 to J$3,000.

The mistake almost everyone makes is to take a full-time weekly wage and divide it by five. That produces a number no good helper will accept, and it is worth understanding why.

Part-time costs more per day. That is not her being difficult.

A helper coming to you for one day a week pays the same fare, and spends the same time travelling, as one coming five days a week. She just has four fewer days to spread it across. The day itself is also usually heavier, because a week of a household’s washing, cleaning and tidying has been waiting for her.

If you divide J$20,000 by five and offer J$4,000 for one day, you are not offering a bargain. You are offering a day that costs her more and demands more, for proportionally less. She will take the full-time job somewhere else, and she should.

What two and three days a week actually costs

When part-time stops making sense

At four days a week you are close enough to full time that the full-time weekly bands of J$18,000 to J$25,000 usually work out better for both of you, and she gets the security of a steady job. If you are already at three days and thinking about a fourth, price it as full-time and see how it compares.
